ENGLISH / CHINESE

The Australia-China Centre for Air Quality Science and Management (ACC-AQSM) is an international research collaboration dedicated to advancing air quality science and environmental management. The Centre connects leading researchers and institutions across Australia and China to address shared air pollution challenges through scientific collaboration, knowledge exchange and policy engagement. ACC-AQSM is hosted by the International Laboratory for Air Quality and Health (ILAQH) at Queensland University of Technology (QUT) in Brisbane, Australia, and operates in partnership with Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Sciences (CRAES) in Beijing and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. The Centre builds on decades of internationally recognised research in air quality science and environmental health. Through this multi-regional partnership, ACC-AQSM supports collaborative research on air pollution, atmospheric processes, emissions sources, environmental monitoring and science-informed environmental management. The Centre also promotes academic exchange, joint research initiatives, and dialogue between researchers, government and industry. By strengthening scientific cooperation across Australia, China and wider region, ACC-AQSM aims to contribute to improved air quality, healthier communities, and more sustainable environmental outcomes.

Aims

To provide a platform for joint research:

  • to further understanding of the multi-dimensional problem of air pollution at all scales and its impact on human health and the environment,
  • to provide technological and innovative solutions to the problem and continued effective monitoring of pollution sources, and
  • to provide input into national policies that enable informed, efficient and regulated management and control.

Approach and Methods

The Centre is building professional capacity through post-graduate training for the next generation of Chinese and Australian scientists in this broad and multi-disciplinary field. In addition, technological breakthroughs – in quality analysis, modelling, validation and management – is jointly developed and shared through these training programs and researcher exchanges. The Centre is driving research strategies via a suite of programs that focus on key areas of required understanding (e.g. Secondary Aerosol Generation; Source Identification; Regional-scale Climate Influence). These advances are directed at policy guidelines and technological innovation for the marketplace.

Partners

Our collaborating partners include some of Australia and China’s leading research universities in the field of air quality science and management.
